Preventing TPMS Sensor Damage

Have you ever damaged a TPMS sensor when mounting or dismounting a tire? It happens because the typical equipment used to both mount and dismount a tire to the wheel was, unfortunately, not designed with TPMS in mind. There are a few easy steps and precautions you can take to ensure the sensors are protected and your shop doesn’t incur extra cost during service.

Summer Ready: Benefits of TPMS Retrofit Kits for Your Off-Road Vehicle

Ready to visit the great outdoors this summer? For many, there’s no better activity than spending time in nature during hot summer days and one popular activity among outdoor enthusiasts is off-roading! Something that should be considered before heading out for an off-roading session is safety, and that includes making sure your tires are properly inflated and maintaining the right pressure.

Direct TPMS Versus Indirect TPMS

Direct TPMS (dTPMS) gathers accurate pressure data directly from the tire valve via four dedicated pressure sensors that are attached to the valve, reporting pressure readings in real-time. Indirect TPMS, on the other hand, uses the ABS system to approximate tire pressure, and motorists must drive a substantial distance before an alert will be generated.

Everything You Need to Know About the TREAD Act

The Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation (TREAD) Act was passed by Congress in 2000 in response to a major recall of defective tires that created unsafe driving conditions and multiple driver fatalities (one hundred deaths due to rollovers were attributed to tire tread separation). The TREAD Act has since been incorporated into the existing National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966.

Understanding TPMS Programming

Direct Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems are a highly technical vehicle safety feature and the TPMS sensor is a crucial component of the system. There are many different sensor types available on the market, including the aftermarket’s preferred solution - programmable sensors. Programmable sensors, like Schrader’s EZ-sensor® family of products, come blank and need to be programmed to the specific make, model, and year of the vehicle being serviced.
