How Pre-programmed TPMS Sensors Work

There are multiple different types of replacement TPMS sensors and educating yourself about these technologies will help you to find the best fit for your business! TPMS replacement sensors are generally categorized as direct-fit, programmable, and pre-programmed sensors. A direct-fit sensor, OE or OE replacement, is loaded with one specific vehicle protocol and works only on a specific MMY selection. A programmable sensor, like EZ-sensor®, comes blank and can be programmed to work on any MMY covered by the sensor manufacturer using a TPMS programming tool with up-to-date software. A Pre-programmed sensor, like EZ-sensor® GO, is pre-loaded with a selection of protocols and can work as a direct replacement sensor for a wide range of vehicles.

Innovation Driven since 1844

Our history goes back to 1844, when a German immigrant, August Schrader, opened a small shop in lower Manhattan, NY. A few decades later, August Schrader’s son, George Schrader, took over and produced the first bicycle valve in 1891. Less than 6 years later, he introduced the automotive pneumatic tyre valve that is still used on most vehicles today. This was the first of many patents to follow.

The early success of Schrader shows the origin of the company’s constant strive for innovation and excellence that has lived on for over a century. Over the last 100 years, with this spirit, Schrader developed and introduced a variety of valve assemblies and gauges. The company’s early devotion to meet and forecast needs of the automotive industry then resulted in pioneering TPMS. In 1997 Schrader equipped the Corvette C5. Now, TPMS is a safety feature that is regulated on all cars and light trucks sold in the U.S. and in Europe and will soon be regulated in China in 2019. Nowadays, Schrader’s direct TPMS technology can be found in over 50% of global OEM vehicle platforms.
